How Bamboo Fabric is Made

From the vast bamboo forests of China there now comes a surprising fabric which has unique properties and makes wonderful soft bed linen.

As well as surprisingly soft and luxurious Bamboo has some really great attributes which make it ideal for bed linen. Our Bamboo Bed linen is made in the UK from 100% Bamboo viscose fabric which we have especially made for us in China.

It may seem unlikely being but the woody plant that we all know can make a luxurious, soft fabric ! It is produced in a similar way to other natural plant based fabrics. The plant material is pulped releasing the cellulose . The pulp is then refined dissolving the bamboo cellulose into a viscose solution. Then the  process mimics the way that the silkworm transforms the cellulose of the mulberry tree into fine filaments. The liquid cellulose is forced through metal spinnerets to create a fine filament performing just like a silkworm spinneret.

The filaments of bamboo cellulose fibre threads harden in a hardening bath of water alcohol solution and are later spun into a soft yarn and then woven into fabric of luxurious quality. We launched our Bamboo Bed Linen after a long search for exactly the right quality to meet our exacting specification. The manufacture of the Bamboo Fibre is manufactured to quality ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System and the resulting fabric has been awarded the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 confirming it is safe for babies.

Here at Between the Sheets that means not only careful research but also regular visits to China to personally investigate the growing, manufacturing and weaving so that we can be absolutely sure about the provenance of our products.

Bamboo fabric has special temperature regulating  qualities, it wicks away moisture from the body as you sleep keeping you at a steady temperature throughout the night, aiding deep, restful sleep.
